And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
- Luke 24:50-53 (KJV)

After the death and glorious resurrection of Jesus, the disciples had a chance to see him and speak with him again. They now had confirmation that what they believed about Jesus was in fact true! They were able to see that he was indeed risen from the dead. They knew that he had to be the son of God in order to do that. Then, he spoke to them one last time and was taken to heaven. Right before their eyes, they saw it and they knew. They knew that what they had believed all along was REAL!

We have not had the opportunity to see this amazing event, however, we know that this event happened and is as real today as it was then. How do we know? We know by faith. Faith is knowing that which cannot be readily seen. We have faith that Jesus is the son of God and we faithfully believe that we will one day join them in heaven. We can trust that this is what will happen… we KNOW it is real… because God’s Word says it is so. The words in the Bible are God-breathed – inspired by God and written by many others – not just one person.

So, we can worship God and have as great a joy as the disciples had on that day. We can continually praise God just as they did then. We can do this because we KNOW it is as the Word says it is.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving us Your Word. We know it was inspired by you and that the words speak the truth. Because we have your word, we can faithfully believe and know without a doubt what has happened. We know that Jesus died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven. We know that we can one day be with you because of the gift Jesus gave. Please help us to keep searching your word for the truth and direction it can give us in our lives. Please help us to always love and seek you.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
