Top Five Questions People Ask Me

What happened?

I was born like that.  That’s the way God made me.

Does it hurt?

Not at all.

Do you have feeling with your nubs?

Yes, there are tiny veins inside them.  They have feelings just like your fingers do.

Will your fingers ever grow?

Nope they will always stay the same as far as I know.  But my hand will grow.  Not like a regular hand but it will grow as I grow.

Will your hand ever get better?

No because there is nothing wrong with it.

Hi Haylee. I just wanted to say those are all the same exact questions I was asked as a child and still do sometimes as a adult. My hand looks just like yours except my nubs were removed around 10 months old, do to sensitivity. I am now 29yrs old and work with those with disabilities. It is nice to know i am not alone. For years the doctors and even my specialist for my hand never had a actual name for it. I refused any prosthetics for my hand as a child and even now. I am fine with what I have, I been to College, I drive, Work and do all the things anyone else can do just with some limits and I know you will go far in life…GO HAYLEE!!!

  7. Jennifer Fryer says:

    Hello Haylee,

My name is Jennifer. I’m 35 years old and a mommy to two very beautiful kids. I was born with the exact same hand as yours, nubs and all! It sounds like you are doing an awesome job with what God gave you. It was hard growing up, kids didn’t understand, but I think as long as you are willing to talk about it to others the more they will understand. I know sometimes things will seem hard but know that you are special the way you are. I was a dancer and a singer in my high school choir and even did a musical! Im currently a Daisy Girl Scout Leader. There are no limits to what you can do! Know You are not alone. There are lots of us out here who have been there. And continue to live life to the fullest everyday! Take care, you will be extraordinary!
