Learning to ride a bike is a pretty simple thing. Our kids start with training wheels and do awesome. Then the time comes that they want to be big and ride their big with out training wheels so we nervously take those training wheels off and teach our children to ride their bike without training wheels. They fall a few times, they struggle, they fall a few more times but before you know it they are riding down the driveway all by themselves with no training wheels.

We were in that situation yesterday but as you know Haylee only has a big right hand and a little left hand that has no fingers. But Haylee is no different then you or or and Haylee can do anything you or I can do but with one hand.

So Haylee told Dad, “I want to ride my bike without training wheels!” Her and Dad took the bike into the garage and took the training wheels off. And Dad began teaching her to ride her bike. It took a little while because she is able to grip with her right hand but her left hand just kind of sits on top of the handle and helps steer. We noticed she leaned to left a bit and asked her why.

“Duh Mom because my big hand weighs more then my little hand.” Wow never thought of that but it is so true. By the end of they evening Haylee was riding her bike with only 5 fingers. She is able to start and stop herself, turn around in the drive way and pedal until her little heart is content.

My child is just as normal as any other child and as long as we treat them normal then they don’t act any different then anyone else. Can’t is a bad word in our house. We can do anything you can do but with 5 fingers instead of 10.
